SF3D started in 2006 as a competitive overclocking team, pushing AMD silicon under liquid nitrogen. The lab reopened in 2026 to run multi-agent cognition systems on AMD RDNA4 hardware — the same partners, the same test bench, a different layer of the stack.

One person, one bench, two cards, running around the clock. Everything on this site is written from what the bench measured; numbers held for the AMD R9700 whitepaper are marked as held.

  • Somnus — a local research loop: one model proposes candidate research questions from gaps between existing findings, a second screens them, and the best are escalated to cloud models that try to refute them. Its build diary is the Lab Notes series.
  • Quaesitor — the multi-agent research platform the loop escalates to: parallel researchers, a falsifier that refutes with code, a neutral assembler, and a durable memory of verified claims.
  • Laya — an open 322M-parameter model being fine-tuned on the bench to read the lab's own Finnish-language judgements, measured against a paid reader and against blind human readings. The next articles.
  • The bench — AMD Radeon AI PRO R9700 (32 GB) and Radeon RX 7900 XT (20 GB) on a Ryzen 9 3900XT, Ubuntu with ROCm.

Who

The lab is run by Petri Korhonen, founder of Sunrise Software Oy, an independent software studio in Tampere, Finland, established 2024. Twenty years in clinical physiotherapy, two decades of extreme overclocking as SF3D, and now software across health tech, audio, research tooling and AI infrastructure.
